The Democratic Voice of Burma launched a campaign on World Press Freedom Day this year for the release of its 17 jailed video journalists (VJs). They languish in prisons across Burma, often hundreds of miles from their families and shut off from the outside world. We are asking people to send a postcard to these men and women, a simple and honest way to communicate, and a reminder that the outside world recognises their work.
The deadline is 1 December 2011.

Dear friend
As you know, we are campaigning for a UN investigation into the horrific crimes committed by the Burmese Army, an important step to exposing the truth and getting action to end these abuses.
Since the rigged election held in Burma last year, there has been a significant increase in human rights abuses which may constitute possible war crimes and crimes against humanity. Crimes committed by the Burmese Army include the mass use of gang-rape of ethnic minority women and girls, recruitment of child soldiers, and deliberate targeting of civilians, including mortar bombing civilian villages without warning.
Later this year the UN General Assembly will meet and vote on a resolution on Burma. The European Union always drafts this resolution.  The EU is currently discussing what should be in the resolution and will have to decide whether or not to include establishing an inquiry in the resolution.  We must make sure that they do!
Please take action now! Send an email to EU governments urging them to ensure the EU supports a UN Commission of Inquiry.
Take action here:

Thank you for your support.

Stand with Aung San Suu Kyi (Avaaz, 1 July 2011)
Suu Kyi has bravely called on the military regime to free the thousands of monks and peaceful activists still held in horrific prisons, some in cramped dog cages. Unprecedentedly, thousands of Burmese have risked their own safety to join her call for freedom through an online petition! Yesterday, the regime issued an ominous warning to Suu Kyi – and the Generals may be deciding right now between dialogue or another brutal crackdown. Sign below and forward this email to build our outcry:
