Dear,

Thanks to calls from across the nation, 14 Senators have already signed on to support the renewal of the Burmese Freedom and Democracy Act! However, this is only the beginning of the support we need to prevent atrocious human rights violations against the Burmese people.

Please call Senator Boxer and ask her to cosponsor this important legislation!

The Burmese Freedom and Democracy Act keeps one last U.S. sanction against the Burmese regime intact. This act sends a strong message to the junta that Americans care about human rights. As Aung San Suu Kyi has expressed, it is too early to declare victory. The Burmese Freedom and Democracy Act is the last piece of leverage the U.S. has to push the Burmese regime towards tangible and lasting democratic change for the people of Burma. We need to renew it to ensure that hundreds of millions of American dollars don’t end up in the hands of the oppressive and corrupt military leaders and their cronies.

The Burmese Army has not stopped with their atrocious human rights abuses. Recently, the Burmese Army prevented 30 refugee camps in the Kachin state from receiving UN humanitarian supplies that now leaves thousands of Kachin refugees with severe food shortages. Support for this legislation will continue to take power away from the Burmese Army and its cronies.

Presently 14 Senators have agreed to cosponsor the renewal! We need to keep the momentum going, emails will not be enough.

We need your help to call your Senator.

IMPORTANT!!!
Senator Boxer has been a cosponsor in previous years and Senator Feinstein is already a cosponsor of this bill. The staffer you talk to may not know that, so it is important to tell them.  Ask Senator Boxer to continue her support for Aung San Suu Kyi and the struggle for democracy and human rights in Burma by again cosponsoring the renewal of the Burmese Freedom and Democracy Act (S.J.RES. 43).
